- He let go of what He had a right to (v6) (see John 5:18)
- He resisted using authority selfishly (v6) (see Ephesians 1:18-23)

Today’s Title: Joy Beyond Suffering & Circumstance – The indispensable power of humility & unity
Today’s Text: Philippians 1:27-2:4
In Christ, unity without humility is impossible & humility without unity is unsustainable.
THE NEED FOR UNITY IN THE BODY OF CHRIST
LIFE IS FILLED WITH CHALLENGES (1:27-30)
- Happenings
- Standing firm
- Striving
- Overcoming fear
- Facing opposition
- Suffering
- Struggling
WHY FACE THESE THINGS ALONE?
- WE have the gospel
- WE have one Spirit
- WE have one faith
- WE are saved by God
- WE believe
SO, UNITY IN CHRIST MEANS…
- WE conduct ourselves in a worthy manner
- WE stand firm
- WE strive together -
- WE overcome the fear of opposition
- WE suffer together
- WE struggle together
“THEREFORE”, BASED UPON OUR COMMON NEEDS (1:27-30) (happenings, standing firm, striving, overcoming fear, facing opposition, suffering, and struggling)
UNITY IS EXPERIENCED THROUGH... (2:1)
- encouragement
- comfort
- common sharing
- tenderness
- compassion
TAKE UNITY TO A JOYFUL COMPLETETION….. (2:2)
- make my joy complete by…
o being like-minded
o having the same love
o being one in spirit
o and of one mind
THE KEY TO UNITY IN THE BODY OF CHRIST – HUMILITY (2:3-4)
- is not self-based
- is not vain
- it values others first
- is interested in others before myself
Humility lets go of selfishness and vanity. It places value upon and interest in others. Even at the expense of yourself.
